How can I request an appointment to visit the kennel?
To request an appointment, you can contact us via WhatsApp or phone at +39 3887711311, or by sending an email to info@rieshof.com. You will be contacted for an initial screening interview, which is essential for planning the meeting.
Is it possible to visit your kennel and meet the dogs?
Of course! We are happy to welcome you to meet our adult dogs, our bloodlines, and our philosophy. Visits take place at our operational headquarters in Rolo (RE), exclusively by agreed appointment.
Can I visit the kennel in Naz-Sciaves?
No. Our main breeding facility, where the dogs permanently reside and all litters are raised, is located in Rolo (RE). The Naz-Sciaves (BZ) location is used, upon request and prior agreement, solely as an official meeting point for the delivery and collection of puppies.
Can I see the newborn puppies during the visit?
Yes, but in a protected manner. For biosecurity reasons and to protect the health of newborns before they have received their first immune coverage, direct contact is not allowed during the first 30-40 days of life. During this initial phase, you can still observe the puppies in total safety through the nursery window.
What health tests do you perform on your breeding dogs?
All our breeding dogs are officially certified for hip and elbow dysplasia (HD/ED) and have DNA deposited.
Genetic analyses vary by breed:
For Australian Shepherd (Aussie) and Miniature American Shepherd (MAS):
We perform the same complete genetic panel through the Vetogene laboratory, which includes:
- CEA – Collie Eye Anomaly
- DM – Degenerative Myelopathy (SOD1 mutation)
- HSF4 – Hereditary Cataract
- MDR1 – Multi-Drug Resistance / Multi-Drug Reactivity (drug sensitivity)
- PRA – Progressive Retinal Atrophy
- QC – Natural Bobtail / Quarter Tail (Short tail)
- NCL6 – Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis Type 6
- CMR1 – Canine Multifocal Retinopathy Type 1
- HUU – Hyperuricosuria
For Labrador Retriever:
We perform the specific genetic package for breed pathologies, which includes:
- EIC – Exercise-Induced Collapse
- PRA-PRCD – Progressive Rod-Cone Degeneration / Progressive Retinal Atrophy
- HNPK – Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis
- Narcolepsy
- CNM – Centronuclear Myopathy
- SD2 – Skeletal Dysplasia 2 (Dwarfism)
- RD/OSD – Retinal Dysplasia / Oculo-Skeletal Dysplasia
- D-Locus – Coat Color Dilution
Are puppies subjected to specialist check-ups before delivery?
Yes. All Australian Shepherd and Miniature American Shepherd puppies undergo a specialist clinical examination and an official ECVO eye exam to check for hereditary eye diseases before reaching 2 months of age, with the issuance of the relative official certificate.
Do you deliver the puppies with a Pedigree?
Yes, all our puppies are sold exclusively with an official ENCI/FCI pedigree. The original document is printed and sent by ENCI directly to your residence or to the competent local delegation, usually within 3-6 months following the delivery of the dog.
When can I take the puppy home?
Puppies can be taken home starting from 60-70 days of life, strictly complying with Italian and European legal terms. This period is essential to ensure proper weaning and the completion of the initial primary socialization phase.
How is the puppy delivered and what does the delivery kit include?
Each puppy is delivered with an implanted microchip, registration in the canine registry, a health booklet, vaccinations and deworming, and the official pedigree. Together with the puppy, we will provide a Puppy Kit that includes high-quality food for the first few days, a written guide on initial management, and a blanket or a toy with the scent of the mother and siblings to reduce separation stress.
How does the reservation and payment process work?
The process involves three steps:
- For official inclusion in our waiting list, a deposit of €200 is required (following a screening interview).
- After the birth of the litter, to confirm the option on the puppy, 50% of the total value is paid (an amount from which the initial €200 is already deducted).
- The remaining 50% is settled on the day of the puppy´s delivery.
Can I purchase a puppy to breed private or commercial litters?
No. All our puppies are sold exclusively upon signature of an official contract with a "Pet Only" clause. This binds the dog to the status of a companion animal and family member, strictly prohibiting private breeding or commercial exploitation. Any exceptions for show or breeding subjects must be agreed upon in writing before reservation.
How are puppies raised and socialized in the first few weeks?
We apply the Bio Sensor early neurological stimulation protocol from the 3rd to the 16th day of life. Subsequently, the puppies follow an environmental enrichment path (exposure to different surfaces and noises), interspecific socialization, and basic behavioral training exercises to teach them, for example, not to jump on people.
In which languages do you offer assistance and advice?
We offer pre- and post-adoption advice in 4 languages: Italian, German (Deutsch), English, and Portuguese (Português).
Are you set up to handle buyers residing abroad?
Absolutely yes. We regularly manage international adoption procedures in the native languages of the kennel and offer all the bureaucratic support necessary for the legal and safe expatriation of the puppy.
How does the issuance of the European Pet Passport work for the puppy?
For puppies intended to reside outside Italy, we take care of requesting and obtaining the official European Pet Passport from the competent local ASL Veterinary Services.
At what age can a puppy cross the Italian border and travel abroad?
For most countries, the law states that the puppy must be at least 15 weeks (about 3 and a half months) old to travel. This is because the legal minimum age for rabies vaccination is 12 weeks (3 months), followed mandatorily by 21 days of waiting for the legal validity of the coverage before expatriation.
Are there exceptions or entry derogations for puppies younger than 3.5 months?
Yes. Some EU Member States provide special derogations allowing the entry of puppies not yet vaccinated against rabies (starting from 60-70 days). Such derogations require a specific declaration signed by the breeder. We verify feasibility case by case during the interview.
Does the Naz-Sciaves (BZ) location facilitate collection for customers coming from outside Italy?
Yes. Our location in Naz-Sciaves (Bolzano), South Tyrol, is our registered legal headquarters and the starting point of our business. As proud South Tyroleans, this is our land of origin: situated in a strategic geographical position, this logistics hub greatly facilitates the collection of the puppy for families residing in South Tyrol, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Northern Europe, drastically reducing travel times and distances.
